My approach is to consult with my client to find out exactly what their end-goal is. For example, let’s say a prospective client was looking at promoting a course, but currently haven’t been operating for long and so don’t have a very large or engaged group of followers at this time. In the first instance this would suggest to me that they are really in the market for social media assistance and probably a targeted advertising campaign which might redirect to a specially designed landing page containing an irresistible description of their course and the option to either sign up now or join a mailing list which would enable ongoing email targeting to convince those fence-sitters. (Generally blogging about courses more than once isn’t an optimal way to convince people.) Depending on the target audience I’d suggest either a Facebook or Google Adwords targeted marketing campaign with a great image and some powerful copy. The components of this solution would then be broken down so the client could determine how much or how little they can afford to start with, depending on their budget and priorities.
If the client is just looking for Google Searches for their course to rank highly on the first page in Google, then that can be done either separately or in conjunction to the above. To achieve this we need to ensure either the landing page content is SEO optimised or a web page about the course is created and keywords are incorporated throughout the content in such a way that it outperforms other pages with the same keyword. Of course they would have to ensure the course name capitalised on keywords which rank highly which makes organically ranking highly more challenging (though definitely not impossible). This is why each client and each situation is unique.
The only way to offer an ‘out of the box’ solution for everyone (as some other social media businesses do) is to either do minimal work for everyone and automate all the processes at a low price or charge an enormous price to everyone so that those who take less time cover the cost of those who use more time.
